Small Home – every big-hearted volunteer is more than welcomed!
Within the project we also support the help centre called “Small Home” in Chuka, Kenya. The centre was established in 1982. Currently, the stuff takes care of twenty disabled boys aged 6-18 years. The main purpose of the project is to help afflicted children from poor families to graduate from a primary school.
Unfortunately, “Small Home” is poorly geared, especially, with a basic medical equipment. Wheelchairs are frequently replaced with regular garden chairs which are placed in the special frame with wheels. It has happened that children did not get enough food because of food scarcities. What is more, the health centre has no access to a doctor or physical rehabilitation.
Despite the fact that boys live in conditions of serious privation, they never complain about their situation. Moreover, they attend the lessons in the school and have successful academic performance. Despite their handicap, boys play football, dream about graduating from university and working in the learned profession. They deeply believe that every cloud has a silver lining.
We are extremely involved in supporting the help centre through the purchase of new wheelchairs, crutches, prostheses and orthotics. We hope that in the future we will be able to provide children with an access to rehabilitation.
